How is Fourneau Carbon Steel different?

Unlike other nonstick pans that contain polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) chemical coatings that flake off into your food, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan is pre-seasoned with grapeseed oil.

While Fourneau Carbon Steel will never be as non-stick as a PTFE non-stick pan, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan is pre-seasoned and over time will develop a better, nearly non-stick surface.

Unlike traditional cast-iron, which takes time to heat up and cool down, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan is made of thin carbon steel and is quick to heat up and cool down – really great when you realize the heat is too high for that grilled cheese.

Unlike traditional cast iron which can weigh in excess of 6 pounds for a similar size pan, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan weighs just over 3 pounds.

Unlike traditional carbon steel pans with a stamped steel handle, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan has a removable cork handle that doesn’t heat up and is comfortable to hold.

Unlike traditional cast-iron pans or carbon steel pans whose weight makes it difficult to move and toss the food, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan’s lightweight design and sloping sides make it easy to shake and toss food.

A nonstick pan is easier to clean than the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan, but using the right technique Fourneau Carbon Steel can be very easy to clean and maintain. Cleaning and maintenance is exactly the same as a cast-iron pan – just rinse with a little soap, dry completely, and season with oil. Over time, a natural seasoning will develop making the pan even easier to clean.

Unlike non-stick pans that are made of a variety of materials and chemicals that quickly degrade and need to be replaced every 2 to 3 years, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan is made of steel and will last a lifetime.

Unlike traditional carbon steel pans which often use rivets – where food and debris can get stuck – to secure the handle, Fourneau Carbon Steel features a welded handle and uninterrupted cooking surface.

Unlike traditional unseasoned carbon steel pans which require hours of work to create the first level of basic seasoning, Fourneau Carbon Steel is pre-seasoned so you can start cooking with it immediately.

Unlike traditional non-stick pans which degrade and need to be replaced every 2-3 years, the Fourneau Carbon Steel pan develops a seasoning that improves over time to make the pan more non-stick.

Unlike non-stick pans that are made of a variety of materials and chemicals that can not be recycled, Fourneau Carbon Steel is made of recyclable steel and renewable cork.
